Part of the Build Your Own Hydraulic series from Great Gizmos, this Hydraulix model uses the same principles as those used in real Cherry Pickers, except you use water instead of hydraulic fluid - less messy, and definitely greener! Great fun for kids to learn about simple hydraulic machinery, including levers and parallel linkages.

Cherry Pickers are machines that are used in many different ways, from rescuing cats in trees and help fire fighters to fixing electricity wires. The cool thing is that as the platform moves, it stays horizontal, so the people on the platform don't fall out!

Hydraulic Cherry Pickers are often mounted on the back of trucks to assist people in reaching high places. While there are many designs, this kit uses a neat parallel linkage that moves the platform up and down, and keeps it horizontal a the same time. This working model illustrates the fundamentals of hydraulics, levers, and simple machines.
